Our Accomplishments & Events

2018

​

  • Perch Creek Blueway and Trail was officially accepted into the State of Alabama Scenic Birding Trail.

  • Nu-Lawn Care began offering complimentary lawn mowing adjacent to the Planter Box located in front of CVS Drugstore.

  • Submitted Tap Grant #3 for additional sidewalks.

  • Continued to monitor on-going issues on the business corridor like mowing, edging, blighted properties, tree protection.

  • Supported Alabama Department of Transportation in its road diet and bike lane efforts.

  • Continued to be attentive to Zoning and Land Use issues.

  • Met with commercial REALTORS regarding property maintenance and development ideas.

  • Participated in various clean-up and litter events.

  • Helped host the Crepe Myrtle Trail Bike Ride in the Spring at McNally Park.

  • Held Art and Paddle Fundraiser at McNally Park/Perch Creek.

  • Participated in numerous City Master Planning workshops.

  • Welcomed Revitalize DIP, non-profit – to the community with plans to work collaboratively in efforts to improve The Peninsula/Dauphin Island Parkway.

  • Held a Yard Sale fundraiser.

  • Made a presentation at the Mobile Area Association of Realtors’ Government Affairs Committee.

  • Participated in the National Coastal Cleanup in September and the Ghost Chase event with Dog River Clearwater Revival .

  • Through generosity of Pilot Insurance “Adjusters Give Back”,  was able to purchase $1,000 of lawn maintenance tools and engaged with B.C. Rain ROTC to assist with various corridor needs.

 

2019

​

  • Supported Alabama Department of Transportation’s elevation of the Perch Creek Bridge.

  • Supported the plans of Councilman C.J. Small’s plans to restore Alba Beach.

  • Representatives began attending and actively participating in the City of Mobile’s Zoning and Urban Development work on behalf of the Map for Mobile.

  • Representatives participated in the Unified Development Code update meetings.

  • Made recommendations to the developers of Rich’s Car Wash on the corridor regarding plans for stormwater management and best practices, resulting in attractive and thriving solutions.

  • Executive Director, Debi Foster, welcomed Shonnda Smith, new City Parks and Recreation Director as well as continued to develop relationships throughout the City administration.

  • Provided input to the City of Mobile for its Building Mobile website.

  • Joined with Dog River Clearwater Revival and the City to develop initiatives to gain public support to reduce use of single use plastic items.

  • Hosted a Bus Tour of the Gallery of Gardens, touring The Peninsula waterfront home sites and distributed over a 100 fact sheets about this unique coastal community.

  • Once again, helped host the Crepe Myrtle Trail Bike Ride with over 80 riders at McNally Park.

  • Representative served on the Mobile Airport Authority Citizen Panel in preparation for the Airport’s Master Plan.

  • Attended the MAA Community Open House regarding the new Airport.

  • Participated in the Coastal Clean up in September and held a November Yard Sale fundraiser.

 

2020

​

  • Due to the COVID epidemic, the majority of community and organizational events were either postponed or cancelled.

 

2021

​

  • A Board of Directors retreat was held for past and newly-elected members.

  • Spoke in opposition to the re-zoning of the former Kelly’s Cleaners building to B-3 which is not in keeping with the future plans of low impact development for the corridor.

  • Participated in community clean-up efforts along with Revitalize DIP.

  • Developed a questionnaire for new Board Members.

  • Supported the Alba Beach, former water works property, purchase for reclaiming for citizen use.

  • Participated in the Coastal Clean up event.

  • Joined in the support and appreciation for the Perch Creek Bridge elevation.

 

 

2022

​

  • Helped facilitate a Western Shore Homeowners meeting to raise awareness of erosion control of bay front properties.

  • Began the use of The Peninsula of Mobile marketing materials, such as stickers, and tee shirts; these items will generate income and raise awareness of the organization.

  • Participated in all of the community workshops relating to the Brookley by the Bay city park being planned.

2024

​

  • The Peninsula of Mobile teamed up with local nonprofit, Mobile United, and created the inaugural "Crepe Myrtle Festival". Taking place at the finish line of the 9th annual Crepe Myrtle Trail ride which was rearranged to end at McNally Park for a day full of community, live music, and local business and art vendors.

  • Assisted the City of Mobile with creation of the Dauphin Island Parkway Recycling Center, the first to be build in this area and one of three total locations in the city.
